2017 Safer Queensland Community Grants Program

Do you have a Great Idea to Improve Road Safety or Support Crime Prevention in Queensland?

Established in 2011, the Safer Queensland Community Grants Program is a partnership between the QPS and Suncorp, offering one-off grants between $1,000 and $10,000 for road safety and crime prevention initiatives.  The Safer Queensland Community Grants Program invites applications from both the community and QPS members (sworn and staff members), including not-for-profit organisations, local councils, schools, community groups, as well as members of the Police Citizens Youth Clubs, to share in $250,000.

Road safety initiatives should aim to lower the road toll and road-related trauma by seeking to change road users’ attitudes and behaviour.  Initiatives could focus on the Fatal Five – speeding, drink and drug driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, driving whilst fatigued and distraction and inattention.  Other initiatives could focus on at risk road users such as pedestrians, bicycle and motorcycle riders and inexperienced drivers.

Crime prevention initiatives should aim to address crime and anti-social behaviour, improve safety and security and reduce fear of crime within the local community.  Initiatives could address property crime, personal safety (including cyber safety), early intervention with young people and/or families, crime prevention through environmental design or hosting events as part of Crime Prevention Month.
